Contemporary Healthcare Education

The subject will explore contemporary issues relevant to health professional education. A number of socio-economic, political, technological and economic factors impact the contemporary healthcare environment and these can raise challenges in healthcare education.

You will be encouraged to reflect on the concept of healthcare education and their role as an educator in the healthcare setting.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this subject will be able to:

  • Identify factors impacting on contemporary healthcare education
  • Discuss advancements in technology and their influence on the healthcare practice and education in the healthcare setting
  • Describe contemporary teaching, learning and assessment challenges for education in healthcare contexts
  • Critically reflect on the concept of healthcare education and the role of the educator in healthcare.


Assessment for this course will occur at various times across the seven-week study period. Tasks may include online quizzes, discussion board activities, portfolio development, case studies, reflection, literature reviews, presentations and reports. Feedback will be provided to you throughout the study period as well as a final grade at the conclusion of the study period.

This subject is part of the Nurse Education major in the online Master of Nursing.
