This subject aims to introduce the healthcare professional to the process of building a portfolio in the context of continuing professional development and professional registration standards.
You will explore topics including learning styles and reflective practice as a basis for lifelong learning, guided by the relevant professional standards. Throughout the subject, you’ll compile your own professional portfolio based on subject content applied to an area of expertise.
Upon successful completion of this subject, you will be able to:
- Describe the different types, purposes, components and assessments of professional portfolios
- Describe the relationship between portfolios and continuing professional development, lifelong learning, reflection and self-assessment
- Identify and design solutions to a range of career development contexts with initiative, accountability and collaboration
- Prepare a substantial professional portfolio that provides a high level of professional learning against an established set of standards.
Assessment for this course will occur at various times across the seven-week study period. Tasks may include online quizzes, discussion board activities, portfolio development, case studies, reflection, literature reviews, presentations and reports. Feedback will be provided to you throughout the study period as well as a final grade at the conclusion of the study period.
This subject forms part of the Advanced Practice, Leadership and Management, and Nurse Education majors in the online Master of Nursing.
