Examine the foundational principles relating to qualitative research design and the strengths and weaknesses of different qualitative methodologies. This subject will focus on a range of methods and techniques including field studies, in-depth interviewing and case studies, and will also consider ethics and rigour related to qualitative research. Each element of research design will be covered, from recognising research paradigms and sampling strategies through to analysis of qualitative data. As part of this subject, you will learn how to design and plan qualitative research as sources of evidence in healthcare.
Upon successful completion of this subject, you will be able to:
- Appraise various qualitative research paradigms and explain how they impact on the design and conduct of qualitative research
- Devise research questions suitable for qualitative research
- Synthesise and analyse primary data collected from qualitative research
- Summarise findings of qualitative data analysis to generate original knowledge.
This subject forms part of the Advanced Practice, Leadership and Management, and Nurse Education majors in the online Master of Nursing.
