Qualitative Research in Healthcare

Qualitative research offers insight into complex patient and professional experiences, explores meaning and inspires theories highly relevant to the delivery of person-centred and holistic health care. In this subject, students will build their capacity to theorise and reflect like a qualitative researcher. Students will formulate research questions, align methods and methodologies, consider the application of ethics within qualitative research and work with qualitative data.


Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, you will be able to:

  • Interpret healthcare-related qualitative research reports
  • Critique an application to the Human Research Ethics Committee
  • Discuss and defend theoretical concepts and methodological decisions in qualitative research
  • Evaluate one's own reflexivity, adaptability, and responsibility in healthcare research
