        Video transcript

My name is Cara McLoughlin, I am currently a what’s known as a Nurse Unit Manager but they changed the role to Nurse Management Coordinator now, so I’m working in remote Northern Territory - very remote - umm and I manage about 45 staff.

What was your motivation for studying a Master of Nursing?

I just kept getting thrown in to leadership roles, like for the last 20 years of my nursing career so I thought I better consolidate something you know and it was a good opportunity to do it and umm JCU was highly spoken about, so I decided to give it a go and once I’d spoken to the Student Success Advisors, yeah I think that was really what tipped me over the edge and made me dip my toes in.

Why did you choose to study with JCU Online?

Being remote I couldn’t attend a uni so online was really good, I liked how it was packaged, what was offered was good and the online capacity.

Do you feel the Master of Nursing has give you more opportunities?

I’ve gained mushed more in depth knowledge, utilised it at work as soon as I’m doing it, while I’m doing the uni subjects, most of my projects I did or topics I did, I did it in relation to my work and could use them as quality improvements and innovation. So a really beneficial course.

        Balancing work and study

Being able to work full time and study full time, so you know managing a busy ward in a remote area, full time mum and you know full time study it’s been manageable, you know, you have your little moments. You can do it and the way the course is set out it’s great.

Do you feel like you were supported during your study?

I think the amount of collaborates we have and the amount of online, you know tutorials, chats and being able to email your lecturer and get a response, it’s very personable, it’s very applicable and you know, you never too panicked about anything because you know that you’re going to get an answer as well.

        Would you recommend JCU Online?

The lecturers are outstanding, you know, they remember you, they remember people, they know how to break it down for different individuals and bring out the best in people. The online lecturers have a lot of time to give and they’re very good in how they deliver it, so, yeah I felt really privileged an really lucky that I did happen to choose JCU, I think my experience could have been very different somewhere else. So I’m really happy that I’ve gone with JCU.
