This subject aims to provide students with the requisite knowledge and skills to complete system-specific and comprehensive health histories and physical examinations. The subject will expand the practitioner’s knowledge of the cognitive processes and psychomotor skills needed for comprehensive assessment of uncomplicated or healthy patients/clients across the lifespan.
Students will develop effective clinical interviewing skills, focused history taking and advanced physical assessment skills in order to deliver holistic person-centered care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team.
Students who successfully complete this subject will be able to:
- Explain a range of evidence based health conceptual frameworks integral to advanced health assessment in clinical practice.
- Describe components of a comprehensive and focused health assessment.
- Perform comprehensive and accurate physical examinations that include appropriate cultural, psychosocial, cognitive, genetic and developmental elements
- Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning and decision making appropriate to their individual scope of practice.
