Human Development Across the Lifespan

In this subject students will explore the human experience of life and the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional changes which occur across the life span. Students will examine key topical areas including the interplay of genes and environment; intellectual and cognitive growth and decline; sensory perception; language and lifelong learning; ageing, perspectives on death and dying. Students will investigate how lifelong changes are shaped by the context of the world in which we live.
Learning outcomes
- Describe the influence of culture and sociohistorical context on the developmental trajectory across the lifespan
- Identify key theoretical approaches to physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development across the lifespan
- Critically appraise and apply theoretical models of development across the lifespan to provide insight into research questions related to the challenges of the diverse populations in regional, national and international communities including but not limited to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
