Human Development Across the Lifespan

Subject code: PY4204:03 

In this subject students will explore the human experience of life and the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional changes which occur across the life span.

The inter-relatedness of theory and research is emphasised and the implications this carries for the application of empirical evidence to everyday life. Students will be provided with the opportunity to examine key topical areas including the interplay of genes and environment; intellectual and cognitive growth and decline; sensory perception; language and lifelong learning and ageing, perspectives on death and dying.


Learning outcomes

  • Identify key theoretical approaches to physical, cognitive and social-emotional development across the lifespan.
  • Critically appraise and apply theoretical models of development across the lifespan in response to a series of culturally diverse problem-based scenarios.
